Synopsis
Van de Staak's longest film, Het vertraagde vertrek, was scripted by experimental writer Jacq Firmin Vogelaar. It began as an inquiry into how spaces shape the people within them, but soon veered off into other territory. Writer and filmmaker chose to draft each scene only after viewing the footage from the one before it, advancing without any fixed sense of the whole. New characters and themes kept emerging as a result, and the material proved so hard to organize that it went through nine different edits.
